PHILOSOPHY

Our practice is patient centered.  That means quality of patient care and patient comfort are our top priorities.  We believe that quality care starts with a thorough comprehensive exam.  We then inform our patients of their needs and treatment options and take the time to carefully listen to their concerns and priorities.

We are very sensitive to the financial aspects associated with quality dental care and we stand ready to work with you.  Treatment plans can often be performed in stages to maximize insurance benefits and affordable financing is available to many patients that qualify.

Our office provides comprehensive care for most of our patient’s needs.  We treat children and adults of all ages.  We see many geriatric and disabled individuals with complex medical histories.  Many of our patients present with devastated dentitions requiring complex treatment planning.

That being said, we are fortunate to work closely with and have excellent relationships with the outstanding specialists in our area.  Having great relationships with our specialists means excellent communication and mutual respect for each office’s role in quality comprehensive care for our mutual patients.

HISTORY

Founded in 1977, Tyack Dental Group began as a one dentist, one employee practice in a small 900 square foot building in Clatskanie, Oregon.

As our practice grew and expanded, Dr. Tyack pursued his commitment to continuing education which serves as the foundation for our practice today.

In 1989, a much larger, state of the art facility was constructed in Clatskanie.

In 1991 Dr. Tyack was awarded Fellowship status in the Academy of General Dentistry and in 1996 he was recognized as Master of the Academy of General Dentistry. (Please see below for more details)

As our practice continued to expand and enjoy success it became increasingly clear how little access our low income population had to quality, comprehensive care.

With the inception of the Oregon Health Plan in 1994, we identified an opportunity to merge our thriving conventional dental practice with a large volume of low-income patients.

Our community’s response was so positive and enthusiastic that we hired additional dentists and staff and in 2001 added a second practice location in Astoria, Oregon.

In 2010, Dr. Tyack’s experience and interest in the Oregon Health Plan qualified him to be the first Oregon dentist to be appointed to the Health Services Commission by Oregon Governor Theodore R. Kulongoski.  This was followed by Governor John A. Kitzhaber M.D. appointing Dr. Tyack to the Health Evidence Review Commission in 2011.

FELLOWSHIP AND MASTERSHIP AWARDS

AGD members are so committed to quality patient care through continued education that many of them earn awards for their education accomplishments.

The AGD offers Fellowship (FAGD) and Mastership (MAGD) awards to members who truly go above and beyond in their learning.  To earn a Fellowship award, a dentist must complete at least 500 continuing dental education hours, pass a rigorous and comprehensive exam, and maintain AGD membership for three continuous years.  To receive the Mastership award, a dentist must first receive his or her Fellowship award.  Then, the dentist must earn an additional 600 approved CE hours within specific dental disciplines.

These awards mean that your general dentist cares about long-term dental heath for you and your family and demonstrates that concern by pursuing additional designations.  The Fellowship and Mastership Awards are two of the most rigorous continuing dental education programs today.  They help your dentist stay up to date on the most current dental procedures in order to offer you the highest quality of care.
